“I Was a Stranger” Day 4: Exodus 23:12

12 “Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.

It happens around us all the time. Strangers in our land are worked to death. Laws are not followed. Wages are not fair. Hours are not reasonable. Benefits are nonexistent.  If you’re an employer there are some direct questions to ask. Do you provide all employees with an opportunity to rest?  Are your employees treated equally no matter where they’re from?  How about for those of us involved indirectly?  Are we supporting places that are treating “strangers” unjustly?

It’s also important to mention that the point of rest is not solely economic.  It’s religious. God wants us to rest from work so we can worship Him TOGETHER. Not segmented into our different ethnic backgrounds at different locations across the city.  Together – as brothers and sisters worshiping the same Father.
