14 Weeks – He Said, She Said

She Said….

How far along? 14 weeks
Total weight gain: No significant difference. I just started weighing myself daily at home and I didn’t have any doctors appointments this week so I’m not entirely sure. Unless our scale is majorly off, it seems that I’m about the same as last week. Maybe 1 pound less…
Maternity clothes? Not yet – but I do like checking out the maternity clothes on clearance when I’m out shopping. And truthfully, I’m kind of looking forward to those maternity pants – they are SO comfortable!
Sleep: The crazy dreams have started. Last night there was a cow next to the pool in our apartment complex. Usually a baby or two shows up in the dreams as well – most recently a baby that never cried! Sign me up for that one!
Best moment this week: Starting to re-arrange to turn my office into the nursery/guest room! And we got a stroller this week!
Miss Anything? I miss sleeping through the night. I always wake up at least once or twice. I guess this is good preparation for baby’s arrival!
Movement: Nope.
Food cravings: Ice cream has never tasted so good! Nothing fancy…just regular ice cream from the grocery store. Especially vanilla bean!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Sometimes certain smells still get to me, but that’s about all.
Have you started to show yet:  Yep – but I can still hide it in certain clothes pretty easily. I think I’m pretty close to the point of just embracing the start of the bump and letting it show.
Gender: Today I think girl. Maybe because the non-crying baby in my dream was a girl!
Labor Signs: Definitely not.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Deciding on a name for our little one!

He Said…

How far along? 14 weeks
Total weight gain: Well, we’ve gained at least 20 pounds through the purchase of a stroller…
Maternity clothes? Beyond a belly band, not yet…
Sleep: Having vivid dreams (true for both of us)
Best moment this week: Singing to the baby.
Miss Anything? Not yet.
Movement: My heart certainly grows more and more in love with the baby…
Food cravings: Ice cream…. Aka, eating a chunk out of our budget. 😉
Anything making you queasy or sick: The thought of more reading in addition to my PhD course readings.
Have you started to show yet:  Yes.
Gender: Male
Labor Signs: Not that I’ve been alerted to…
Belly Button in or out?  I highly doubt it will ever be out.
Wedding rings on or off? On. I’m still the focus of her affections.
Happy or Moody most of the time: I claim the fifth. 😉
Looking forward to: Rocking the baby to sleep.

13 Weeks Down, 27 To Go!

Between all the apps and websites and cute pins on Pinterest, there’s certainly no shortage of information about pregnancy and babies out there. I’m pretty sure by the time this baby is born I’ll have a love/hate relationship with the internet (actually, maybe I already do…). There’s a lot of good stuff out there, but a lot of unnecessary, senseless worry that can result if you have a runaway imagination like me.

It’s easy for week after week to go by without really embracing the miracle that is happening. One bit of advice I read (on one of those websites or apps) was about slowing down and enjoying the journey.  One way I plan to do that is by keeping a weekly progress report on the blog (thanks for the idea, Pinterest!) of how things are going with my pregnancy. It probably won’t be of much interest to anyone but me and maybe a few friends and family members, but I look forward to documenting the progress along the way. So here we go – Week 13 – a few days later than planned. Oh, and if you make it to the bottom of the post there will be a few belly pictures waiting for you.  That will either compel you to read more, or immediately close this window.  It’s ok – I’ll never know!

How far along? 13 weeks
Total weight gain: -2 pounds (yes, negative – I’m pretty sure that’s about to change though!)
Maternity clothes? Nope, not yet. My looser clothes are totally fine and I’m just wearing the belly band with pants that were already tight to begin with.
Sleep: LOTS of it! I can barely keep my eyes open past 9:30 pm – but with my 6 am alarm that’s probably not a bad thing. Oh…and I can pretty much make the trip from the bed to the bathroom with my eyes closed at this point!
Best moment this week: Telling friends and family that Baby Veltman is coming!
Miss Anything? Not so much… Thankful for decaf coffee or that would definitely be on my list!
Movement: Not yet – we’ve got a ways to go before we feel him/her move.
Food cravings: Cantaloupe and ice cream! Not together.
Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of the garbage truck … ewww!! Oh, and bad breath. Mint, anyone??
Have you started to show yet: Depends on the day. Some days I look like I have the start of a bump more than other days. If you didn’t know I was pregnant you’d probably just think I ate too many sweets this summer or something.
Gender: For weeks I thought boy but now I’m starting to think girl…
Labor Signs: Thankfully, no. That would be bad.
Belly Button in or out? In (I really can’t imagine it popping out – but we shall see!)
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Mostly Happy. (Than might have a different answer.)
Looking forward to: Finding out if we’re having a boy or a girl!

And here you have it – the start of the belly… So far it seems the differences are all about how I’m standing, camera angles, and whether or not we took the photo before or after lunch!

Happy Anniversary to us!

This past weekend we celebrated 2 years of marriage! It’s hard to believe that it’s been 2 years already, yet at the same time it feels like forever ago that we were engaged…or dating…or single! I think that’s probably a good sign. I love this quote below about marriage – not sure where it came from but I like the perspective!

To marry is to choose:
Closeness over Distance
Companionship over Detachment
Relationship over Isolation
Love over Apathy
Life over Death.

We were able to go away for the weekend (thanks to a good deal found on Groupon Getaways or Living Social) and spend a couple of nights in Palm Springs. It might seem crazy to go to the desert in the middle of summer but we had a great time! The 114 degree temps had dropped and honestly I think it might have been cooler in Palm Springs than it has been in Pasadena. We enjoyed the resort’s pool, tried out some local restaurants (I think we had the best Chicago-style pizza I’ve ever had outside of Chicago!), wandered around the shops and overall had a really relaxing time.

Than is super busy with his PhD program and doing research for a professor. He has 2 weeks of all-day intensive classes later this month with lots of assignments to do and books to read in between. Let’s just say those stacks of books that would appear around finals week during the masters program have nothing on the stacks of books that have now invaded our living room!

I’ve recently joined the leadership team for our Sunday School class at church. I’m going to be coordinating service projects for our class and I am very excited about that. We’re going to be starting with serving the Sunday Community meal – surprise surprise!
